The NSW based J/70’s got together again to compete in the inaugural J/70 NSW Championships which were held as part of the Sydney Harbour Regatta, hosted by MHYC over the weekend of March 7-8, 2015. The race committee set an awesome sailing area for the J/70’s which was right at the entrance of the Sydney Harbour heads, which brings with it fresher winds and a rolling swell in the right conditions.
Well, that weekend brought the right conditions with a 3-4m swell and 15-25knot winds which made for some great planing/surfing rides down the front of the waves. The JEDI crew reported seeing four J/70s with kites up, surfing down a large wave toward them and saying it looked like a scene from “A Perfect Storm.”
The 6 race series was won by JEDI, skippered by Tony Barns, followed by JAMES and JUNIOR. Special thanks to MHYC for hosting a great regatta.
